South Wales Wireless College

Hello everyone I know my question does not directly concern your forum but please bear with me.
I'm researching my late father's WW2 Records and I remember my late mother telling me he attended the South Wales wireless college which she said was located in Wind Street, Swansea. I've managed to find the college address in a 1940 Trade phone directory. The last entry for the college seems to be in the 1952 one.
I have no further knowledge of the college but wondered if any of you knew anything no matter how insignificant. I have a photo of my father wearing a Merchant Navy uniform with one wavy band on the sleeve. I think this signifies a Wireless Operator 3.
He was called up into the RAF in January 1941 due to a shortage of WO's?
Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks
John

Hi there Sabre, can't help with any information on the South Wales Wireless college but, if it's of any interest, one wavy band may be indicative of a Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Navy Reserve ("The Wavy Navy").

These sites may clarify:

Good luck with your searching.

Thanks for your reply Don and thanks for pointing me in the direction of the other forum. I've done as you suggested and sent a pm to the person who replied.
Once again thank you.

Don...http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/beer-2/ What do you think of this poem?  Item 48 is rather 'un P.C.' (No not you Mr.Salmond, honest!)

Interesting  and somewhat amusing as you know I am partial to a drop of John Barleycorn's blood but then I have wide tastes in such matters and would not disrespect fine wines, decent malts, flavoursome brandies nor even a "drop of Nelson's blood" but I'm puzzled as to why you posted on this thread!!!

Were you, perhaps, reading it at the time and posted the link from where you were?

Line 48 may well be un-PC, most accurate things are!!!

As to whether or not you wished Mr Salmond (failed President of the Independent Republic of Scotia - or should that be Caledonia? - who cares), to be included in line 48 , well, if the cap fits.....

Well Don,I had a thread to post so I just got WEAVING and I must have DARN well got the wrong topic.  Perhaps the fact that the Wireless College seems to have moved South to South Wales had something to do with it!

The times (and service providers) are achanging

Hi,
I have received a rather obscure email from EE. As you may know the WC web site was originally hosted by Freeserve using free web space. Well almost free because as you dialed in on a 56k modem a portion of the call charge made by BT went to Freeserve. So for the past ten years or so I have kept the web space by using my 56k modem going alongside my Broadband. However, Freeserve became Wanadoo and Wandoo became Orange and Orange became EE,  (got a nose bleed yet?). Well somewhere along the line whoever owned the servers stopped giving free webspace. The recent email says that dial up is being discontinued from the end of October. Having spoken with EE Customer services it seems that we have been sitting on a long forgotten server. The bottom line is when dial up goes so does the WC web. I am working on a basic site to take its place with a new service provider. The url (address) will stay as www.wirelesscollege.co.uk because we own that domain and I can point the url to any service provider (a redirect). However, the email addy must change from dahdedah@wirelesscollege.freeserve.co.uk to wirelesscollege@gmail.com.
I am sure you can see why given the 'freeserve' in the former of the two. You can continue to use the old email addy until the end of the month. There is a lot to do so the new site will be built up over time. We will have less space and so the pics may not be able to go over. They are of course all on our Face Book page. I will put a link to this forum on the new web as a matter of priority. The new web space will be provided by Google sites which fits in nicely with the emergency email I set up some months back in anticipation. To precis: dont panic! web same address but email changes.
